My Slash 5's Page
In 1999, Kevin Chase and I rode specially
prepared Slash 5's in the Iron Butt Rally, an endurance rally event that
covers a 8,000 mile base route in 11 days. Many people riding the rally
end up covering more than 11,000 miles in the 11 days - though not on
something as archaic as BMW Slash5's. For more information, see www.ironbutt.com.
This
is the bike I rode in that event.
Although this picture doesn't show the additional gas
tank/storage box that Kevin built (see the Chase Fabrication page). Here
are a couple of shots at the start of the rally - both my bike and Kevin's

Normally, the Iron Butt is run on a bike that looks a little
more like this:

Other Slash 5's I've owned over time:
This
is one of my favorite Slash5's - a project bike I bought in Berkeley,
CA. A friend of mine (Gene Bowen) and I rebuilt this bike from a pretty
mangy pile. While it's not stock by any means, it certainly was a very
pretty bike - we sold it to the manager of Harry's Bar in San
Francisco.
It was stolen from in front
of Harry's a couple of years later - I hope the thief ends up in a really
special place in hell for that...

I have a few others I need to dig up pictures for - as well as
my current Slash 5 - Paul Sotrop's bike - which I need to take some pictures
of. Where will I find the time?
